Christmas Sale Buys And What Pressies I Got!

Hello there all you lovely ladies and gents, I hope everyone had a really nice safe and relaxing Christmas. Also a happy new year to you all! I might have been awfully bold and abandoned my poor blog altogether for the likes of the lustful tin of roses and the many many reruns of Buffy and classic cheesy Christmas films. One cold and infection after another has left me promising to write up a blog post only to find myself face down snoring on the couch, so please try to ignore the time length!

I thought I'd start by showing everyone what I got for Christmas and then a few bits I nabbed in the sales. I went back for round two but I'll save that for another post soon! Apart from you all being jealous of my new pretty floral bed sheets - Ikea you sexy shop, you! You will notice that I have now renamed my blog to Big Blonde Girl as it not only makes life easier, but everyone knows me by that alone! The uber lovely Stephen from Hardly Working Highlight Reel  spent a painful amount of time on it for me, while I was leaning over his shoulder chewing his ear off. The poor sod! If you have a look at the top picture you'll see my new gorgeous long purple scarf that the mother in law knit for me. I just. I just can't. Hash tag in love!!

And now onto the great bargains I got in the sales! Naturally on Stephens Day I was first in the que at the door of Lush, but that to be expected of me. don't you know. My total mind blown buys were the 500g Pounche shower gel €10.48 and an unexpected find of Lovely Jubbly breast cream for only €10.95 - its literally never on sale! I also got two Penguin and Christmas eve bubble bars that were €6.76 for them all! A little bit of angels delight soap, €2.33 and lastly the stardust gift set for €16.98. You can see all the wonderful things in it below!

Then I wondered into Boots and came away with some lovely cards, a royal jelly set and a Beauticology set that I had my eye on for ages before Christmas all for under €13! 

This New Year I have not resolutions, this year I'm just going to take one day at a time and hope that everyday is better then the last. To help me on my way I'm doing little things to perk myself up, which I will be blogging lots about soon.

Some New Years Resolutions

I hope everyone had an exciting and fun new years eve, whatever you got up to! So its now officially 2013 and as with the first day of any new year comes that tiny niggling little voice in the back of your head 'what will you set out to achieve this year?'. 

Theres the typical worry of weight. If its bulking up or slimming down, were all off to throw as much money at gyms as we can possibly afford. After all that Christmas dinner, leftover turkey sambos and the tin of Roses sitting on the couch just asking to be eaten, you feel like your having a food baby. But giving them money doesn't give you a one track ticket to your image of a perfect body, you have to actually go. Thats where it normally gets a bit hazy for me..

Another silent thought roaming everyones minds is that tiny word that causes so much trouble. Love. Its all well and good for some, but for the likes of us Bridget Jones types its a bit of a pain. In 2012 I luckily bagged myself a great guy (it sounds like I got him in Dunnes, 20% off!) and he has yet to run away screaming. It must be the cakes I bake.

And of course the work/study situations. I will do extra time in the office and show I am ready for that promotion/account/position I so desperately want. I am absolutely going to go to all my lectures this term AND hand in essays early, no last minute late night writings for me. 

Now be honest, are you really going to get up at 5 to 6 every morning to curl your hair and do your make up instead of the extra time in bed? Giving up those chocolate biscuits? That yoga mat you bought 2 years ago isn't going to get a look in either - even if you have it casually sitting in the corner of the hall. But if you decide on just one or two things that you could try out or that would really make a difference to your life, why not give it a go?

For example I have no intentions of darkening the doors of a gym. That doesn't in any way say I am healthy, but I know going about it that way will never work. Instead I am going to finish off that chocolate santy I ate the head off of last night and then consider going for a walk at least 4 times a week - ignoring the bus stops along the way. I am going to try and get more involved with my local community centre. Giving back while making new friends and leaning some new skills along the way. Lastly, I am going to to love myself. I know that sounds crazy, but if you don't love yourself how can you love others? No more negative comments or thoughts. No more I say! And this is where 'Let The Introductions Begin' comes in. Blogging daily, or as much as I can this year will help to keep my creative side going, help me to set goals, learn and be part of a new online community.   

So go on, try one thing, just one! Theres no point in setting unachievable goals when you can start small and be proud of what you have done come the end of 2013. 

Happy New Year

I have been informed by the lovely people of Facebook that it is indeed the 31st of December. And we all know what that means - another year to look forward to! Or in my case just remembering about, hence the scrambling to the nearest computer to inform the world of how clueless I am.

So, what happened in 2012? In a random fashion, heres a few bits and bobs from home and abroad that I can think of;

• The big one, the 2012 Olympics in the UK. Everyone either loves it or hates it. I was converted this year, but only because I was staying with friends who are obsessed with sports. And lets not forget Ireland's great wins! Ah Ms Taylor has a special place in my non-sporting heart forever.

•  - And to add to that the Queen celebrated her Diamond Jubilee. The little lady even took part in the closing ceremony of the Olympics, pretending to parachute into the stadium. I have a feeling she is going to live forever. She is so up to date and well, as the cool kids would say, 'hip'.

• #Kony 2012. This video went viral after being posted about Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony. It sort of backfired after being such a social media success and ended up fizzling out. But it shows yet again the power of people and the power of the internet.

• The American election was back on and Obama was re-elected. (did anyone else stay up til 4am and watch the results come in? No? Ok then..)

• The death of Savita Halappanavar at a Galway hospital had the country in an uproar and protests were held in favour of legalising abortion in Ireland.

• Maeve Binchy passed away. Her last novel A Week in Winter also was released. She will be missed. I was first introduced to her by my Gran when I was little. The film Tara Road, which was adopted from a book Maeve wrote was played to death in my house. 

• The Mayan calendar finished and the world was meant to end on the 21st of December. Good thing I didn't hold my breath. 

• The Late Late Toy Show was a success again this year with a few gems as always. Who remembers this little fella?

I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and is looking forward to the count down tonight. Me? Well I'll be sitting in bed with some tea, dripping a face mask onto the latest book I'm reading.
