NOTD: New Seventeen Quicker Slicker Colour

It feels like I haven't talked about nail varnish in ages and I'm glad that this is the particular one I'm going to be rabbiting on about today. This is one that I picked up in November (I think) when Seventeen was on 3 for 2. I grabbed it when I saw the offer and then it got shoved to the back of the draw like so many of my poor things. I'm such a boldie for doing that, please tell me I'm not I'm my own?!

Anyway, I'm very excited about Seventeens quicker slicker colour. First off, it comes in 25 different shades, I know right? And if thats not enough to make you want to have a glance at them in the shops or online then let me inform you that they are €3.79 each. I know, I'm like chocolate. So bad for you, but so damn good too. (Yes, I really did just compare myself to chocolate. You'd know I'm tired today.)

Have a look below at the bottom picture, I put that up last Monday on twitter when I wasn't sure of the colour - fury. I am still slightly ifie over it, but thats not what I wanted to talk about. Since that tweet, I haven't bothered to take it off. So that over a week of biting nails, putting them in harsh bleach water and the rest. The top four photos underneath are how my nails look today with only one coat on, with and without the flash. They are starting to chip yes, after over a week I'm not at all surprised. But they are only starting to chip. For someone who covered herself in nail varnish all the time, this is a pretty rare thing to find.

I'm so so impressed with this nail varnish, I can't believe that this has lasted so long and with only one coat. When I compare a brand that is more 'high end', expensive and better marketed like Maybelline and their latest nail varnish (review over here) you can't beat something cheap that works 5/6 days longer then what some would consider 'posh' brands. Basically - run out and buy some Seventeen quicker slicker colours asap!

NOTD: Maybelline Color Show Brocades Knitted Gold

I don't own a huge collection of nail varnishes, but those that I do I always wear loads and love them like they are a limb. And the past few months writing a blog has given me an excuse to buy and try out more and more, oh bold girl that I am! One thing I'm not a massive fan of is glitter, but when I saw this online I knew it had to be mine. The new Maybelline Color Show Brocades has 10 new beautiful glitter shades that I want all of. Like every single one, thankyouplease! They look nice on Maybellines online store, but seeing them in person when I was in Boots was a major treat for the eyeballs. 

Knitted gold has a gold shimmer base with thousands of bigger and tiny rose gold/pink pieces of glitter that aren't really circles, more like a hexagon shape but I can't really count the sides properly a they are so small. But just wow. Who doesn't need a bit of sparkle in their lives? And especially as the party season is now upon us and not everyone (me) wants to deck themselves out in a eye catching dress or glittery pair of heels. 

I went off outside in the natural light to show you all how divine this nail varnish is. Pretty, no? But besides how fab it looks, its a pain in the backside to keep on. The Maybelline site claims that this is a chip-resistant nail polish. Lads they are having me on, chip-resistant my... Umhum, well besides that, its just really annoying. After only a day it comes off in big chunks. I put two lovely coats on last night, then after having a shower and putting on my tights the next morning it looked just dreadful, take a look at the picture below. Devastated. 

I've been wearing this about a week, reapplying it loads. Applying it is fine, the nail varnish has a normal decent brush for application that causes no hassle and after two coats your ready to hit the town. But you need patience and a good nail varnish remover to get this off. Its a well known fact that glitter nail varnish is harder to scrub off then normal polish, but man its a pain when your in a hurry and you end up frantically picking and chipping away at your nails (we've all done it don't lie and look so shocked). 

 Overall I love this so much while also hating how bad it is for chipping quickly after only just putting it on. Why cruel world, why? Despite all the negatives, I will be picking up one or two other shades in the Color Show Brocades as they've all stolen my little heart and at €5.95 they wont break the bank. 

On another note spelling colour as 'color' for this entire post nearly sent me mad!

NOTD: Star Gazer

I feel like I haven't done a NOTD in so long. For some reason the past few months I've been neglecting my nails and just leaving them to bite on occasion. (worst habit ever, I know!) 

This is from Star Gazers ultra cover nail varnish collection in 304, that I got in the Ilac Center for €2.99. Its a lovely dark blue colour that has so much shimmer and tiny yellow/green glitter. This colour reminds me of Gosh nail lacquer in 540 Ocean but much more affordable.

As you can see from the photo I use this loads when I do pay attention to my nails that is. It goes on easy and about to two will make sure its bold and perfect. The varnish lasts about 3 days before it starts chipping. Its very easy to take off, however it leaves a blue stain on your nails that has to wear off as nothing will remove it. Bit of a fail there.

The brush in this isn't anything to rave about, I found it a little big for my liking and couldn't help but knock off the edge of my nail onto my skin - see the awful paint job below. But still, that might just by my awful painting skills. The bottle is one of my favourite that I own in my ever expanding collection, next to my models own bottle. (If it wasn't seen as weird I would frame that gorgeous bottle.) Its simple, a lovely round glass bottle and the lettering on it stands out from the varnish colour, great stuff.

NOTD: Essie Bikini So Teeny

Its been a while since I've done a nail of the day post so I thought as I have new Essie nail varnishes I might write a little one. I have a feeling I'm last to the party here (like I always am) as every blogger and vlogger has been raving about this range for only god knows how long. Normally Essie costs an arm and a leg (about €10 in the shops) so I never gave it much notice, but when I picked it up for £1.99 online from FragranceDirect I was a small bit delighted with myself. 

Bikini So Teeny is a really gorgeous lavender bluey colour that has a hint of sparkle in the bottle but less so once applied. This colour reminds me for some reason of Barry M's Blueberry, but of course its a lighter shade then this Essie one. The brush is a nice, full easy to use one but I have yet to find a replacement for essence brushes, they are still number one in my book. I have to say the packaging is nothing special but then again maybe it was the simple clean approach Essie were going for and its gone over my head. The varnish itself needs about 2 coats before it becomes completely opaque and lovely looking. The first picture on the right here shows 2 coats on all my fingers apart from my middle finger, just to show the difference. It does need a good few minutes to dry but once it does there is no smudging like there is with some polishes when you layer coats on top. I didn't feel the need to use a clear top coat with this as it was such a shiny good quality. 

Wear-wise it lasts about 3 days before it starts to show wear. I'm not counting the fact that because I sometimes bite my nails the chipping always starts early. I'm not sure if I would repurchase a nail varnish this expensive as I can't really justify it, but if any more catch my eye online that are the bargain price of £1.99 like this one was then I will definitely nab it. 

NOTD: Barry M Blueberry

Would you look at that, two posts up in one day? My oh my, I'm making up for my lack of posting now! If you read my Facebook post earlier, you'll know I was hoping my nail varnish would pop up. It heard my pleas and wondered out from its hiding place. And people give me weird looks when I talk to objects. 

Today I have the lovely Barry M's Blueberry in number 306. I am dying to get back into wearing bright, warm, summer colours again after a long winter and dark, colder tones. And this is just the colour to make you happy when you look at it! Its a stand out light blue and its one of my all time favourite colours that I wore to death last summer along with Barry M's Fuchsia as you can see in the picture above. And before you get your hopes up seeing sun and flowers, no it wasn't taken recently it was last summer I'm sorry to say. I love using two colours on my nails to make it more interesting and to my make nails match more outfits - which never work out let me just mention! 

This colourful treat is just under €6 and I really like Barry M's nail polishes. They have some really different shades and as you know from my last NOTD, I am in love with the glitter nail paint in Amethyst Glitter. You can nearly always pick up a deal of buy one get one half price and I have my fingers crossed that will happen soon for Blueberry, because I have just found out my bottle is almost empty! I have never finished an entire nail varnish before, so I have a feeling last summer was the cause. The bottles themselves are gorgeous and something I like to display instead of hiding it in a drawer with the other ugly looking bottles of varnish. 

This only needs one coat and maybe a top coat but I tend to leave it off because I find that it stays the same length either way. The brush is fine, but I don't think I will ever love another nail varnish brush as much as I do the L'oreal Colour Riche ones. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes to dry which can be a bother if your in a hurry (or need to put your hand in your pocket to take out your bus fair - yes I do my nails waiting on the bus. Time saving and all that!) but stays about 3 days before chipping. Removing it is no problem, it only needs a tiny scrub for the stubborn corners.

NOTD: L'oreal Sublime Platine

I had to do a NOTD to tell you all about a nail varnish I picked up on sale in Boots a few weeks ago for only €4, but I think its normally at the €6 mark. Its L'oreal Colour Riche in Sublime Platine 819 and as you can see, its a gorgeous silver that is so eye catching. 

The first time I used it I could not get over how much I kept looking at it and how beautiful it looks on. You will only need one coat of this as it is a more high end product (then what I normally use!) that deserves the name. The brush is wide and easy to use, none of this blobs and painting one nail for 5 minutes business.  This will stay on your nails for about 2 days before it starts chipping. The second time I used it I put on a finishing coat and it lasted me nearly 3 days but I accidentally bit my nail and it started chipping, oh dear. Taking it off is really easy too with one cotton pad soaked in nail varnish remover doing all my nails in one go. 

I have also been eyeing up Barry M's glitter nail paint in Amethyst Glitter that I think would go so well as a top layer with this. I may just pick it up! I would highly recommend having a look through L'oreal's massive nail colour collection and see if anything takes your fancy as these are amazing varnishes and I know I will be getting more of in the future.

NOTD: Essence Choose Me!

Just a quick nail of the day for you all. I can't get enough of this shade at the moment and have been reapplying non-stop. Its Essences Colour and Go range Choose Me! in number 38.

 Its a beautiful and full of glitter deep bluey green colour. You need 2 coats to make it really stand out and get about 3 days wear before it starts to chip. I always put a clear finishing coat on top just to try and make it last a bit longer. Its really easy to take off as well, no scrubbing required! Ignore the silver nail in the middle, I was trying out some of a friends collection and didn't bother to take it off. I think the colours go well together.

Essence is a cheap as chips brand that I have been buying from for ever. You can get yours in Boots, most chemists and Pennys (Primark.)  There are so many shades of nail varnish to choose from and for as little as €2 you would be mad not to try some of them out. I'm a big fan of their eye liner and finishing powder too.
